These improvements come from situations encountered in the app's everyday use.
More consistent mileage over time
Adding a past maintenance entry or fixing a mistake should preserve the vehicle's timeline.
For example, a repair logged at 150,000 km should not be followed by a fill-up at 148,000 km a few days later without an inconsistency being flagged.
MotorTrack strengthens mileage consistency checks across several operations, including adding events with parts, importing data, editing mileage, and logging fuel.
The goal: reduce the contradictions that later make the history hard to interpret.
Retracing the steps of a defect's follow-up
A repair doesn't always mean the problem is solved. An inspection may confirm an issue; a repair may be a first attempt.
MotorTrack now distinguishes the links between a defect and the events that document its progress:
- Observation: what was noticed.
- Diagnosis: the checks and investigations carried out.
- Repair: the actions taken.
- Resolution: the event tied to the defect's resolution.
These relationships are now viewable from both defect and event pages.
This lets you retrace the steps tied to the same issue, without presenting every repair attempt as a final fix. This history helps prepare for a future inspection or explain to a professional what has already been tried.
Recording the actual resolution date
Information isn't always entered on the day the work is done.
A defect repaired in June might get updated in MotorTrack in September. The resolution date should be able to reflect the June repair.
You can now specify this date when resolving a defect via the API and compatible assistants connected to MotorTrack. If no date is provided, today's date is still used.
This update makes it easier to reconstruct an older history. Entering this date from the web interface is planned as a follow-up improvement.
Sharing vehicle tracking between accounts
In a household, the person who uses a vehicle isn't always the one who organizes its maintenance or logs repairs.
MotorTrack now lets an owner invite another person to track a vehicle from their own account, with two access levels:
- Read-only: view the shared information.
- Contribution: help track events and defects.
Vehicles received through sharing appear in a separate section from the account's own vehicles.
The vehicle stays tied to its owner's account. The recipient cannot change its identity, transfer it, or delete it. Private documents are excluded from this first sharing scope.
The owner can revoke access at any time. To change permissions, you currently need to revoke the delegation and send a new invitation.
MotorTrack lets an account receive up to three shared vehicles. An owner, in turn, can maintain up to two active delegations. These limits were chosen to keep tracking clear and suited to use between individuals. Pending invitations only count once accepted.
Better tracking of corrections
A maintenance log should be correctable: a mistyped date, a mileage figure to fix, or a report to complete.
Change-history coverage has been strengthened to support shared tracking, particularly for events and defects.
The goal is to keep a record of changes and better understand how the vehicle's information has evolved.
